After a quick delivery in to Chester it’s back to the brew hall to make Oddity #6, a collaboration with Otherton Ales, our cuckoo brewer.
Usually with collaborations both brewers are there to actually make the beer. Today I’m in Crewe and Dave is in Birmingham and sorting out Birmingham Beer Bash stuff so we’re collaborating electronically and I’m leaving him all the big cleaning jobs for when he gets back!
Oddity #6 Tripelette Saison – doesn’t make a huge amount of sense but we are going for a Belgian Tripel style but on a lower target abv of 5.6%. To quote Peter Jackson, the Beer Hunter, “Tripel. Dutch-language term usually applied to the strongest beer of the house, customarily top-fermenting often pale in colour, occasionally spiced with coriander. The most famous is made in Westmalle, Belgium.” Hence ours is a little Tripel, a Tripelette!
We are going to ferment this at a warmer temperature on a saison yeast having added a ton of hops and maybe a smidge of coriander. There’s a nice little article here from Funk Werks about Saisons, just for a change we aren’t sticking to the rules.
This is going to be casked, kegged and bottled and will make it’s debut at Birmingham Beer Bash in a couple of weeks (Otherton Dave is also director of this fab event, well worth a visit) and it’ll then be on at our own Firsty Friday Festival 7th to 9th August but shout up if you’d like a cask, keg or bottles for your venue.
Best crack on! Michelle
