#IWCBD part 2

March 12, 2017 // 0 Comments

On Wednesday Michelle from @LiverpoolCask and I mashed in for the #IWCBD International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day with #ThereSheGose.  Today there’s just this one Michelle back in to do the second part of the brew now our wort has dropped its acidity level and is souring nicely.  Long, slow day waiting for the kettle to boil before adding lime zest and salt for a Margarita finish. There She Gose seemed the best name for a this salty sour Gose style brewed on International [...]

Diary dates keep coming in

March 11, 2017 // 0 Comments

I’m not from #Crewe (and to be honest I’ve moved round a lot so it’s a long story tracing back where I’m from!) but happy to be here and it’s great to get invited to be involved in community events. We’re obviously a big part of the Berries, Beans & Beer event on 28th – 30th April at the Crewe Heritage Centre and hope you’ll come along and support this new drinks festival with a twist; tickets available online here from £5 to £7, direct [...]

The things you learn at/from #FirstyFriday

March 4, 2017 // 0 Comments

1. You’ll be amazed what a good night you find yourself having in a small industrial unit in Crewe. 2. With no insulation it’s either hot or cold. Turn the heaters off and everyone freezes, leave them on and the people sat near by are getting cooked to the point of well done. 3. The beer choice is varied and errrm sometimes interesting.  Seems pineapple cubes and tropical wheat together somehow break down to provide a slightly vomit like aroma and yet a whole keg was drunk and [...]

#FirstyFriday 3rd March & Preview Thursday

February 27, 2017 // 0 Comments

It’s the first Friday of the month this week so it’s our big open night, #FirstyFriday. The beer list is already up in a brief moment of super organisation here: BEER MENU. There will be cheese boards, crisps and the Weston Biltong beer sticks available if you’re after a snack. Phil Maddocks and Nick Bayes are bringing the tunes.  The band tell us, “We’ll be playing a mixture of familiar cover versions and some of our own original greatest hits in our unique [...]

Life just got real serious!

February 23, 2017 // 0 Comments

Our board games just got a load more family friendly than Cards Against Humanity! Looking forward to hosting a round of the #boardgamechampionships – in the brewery bar Thursday 16th March.   If you’ve a steady hand for a game of Jenga, encyclopedic general knowledge for Trivial Pursuit, a fantastic vocabulary for Boggle or a quick thinking brain for Taboo then this is the night for you!  More information here and let us know if you want to put team in to take [...]

Have you been to the Brewery Bar?

February 20, 2017 // 0 Comments

Since we moved everything about, the Brewery Bar has become a huge focus of Offbeat.  In January we added some glass doors, new heaters and ‘carpet’ to bring a bit more warmth to this cool, quirky space along with some new tables so between the two rooms there’s a load of seating. There’s always a range of Offbeat beers on along with some guests.  We have draft and bottled cider, a wine list, a selection of soft drinks and a gin collection that keeps growing.  We also [...]

#FirstyFriday Festival

February 20, 2017 // 0 Comments

A brief chat with a friend about #FirstyFriday Festival and I thought I’d best drop you an update.  At the moment our big August weekend’s future is a little unknown, a lot will depend on the tenant in the third unit and whether we can use the car park for extra toilets, seating and so on.  We are planning a load of extra opening hours through July and August and some more live music but will confirm whether we doing the big festival once we know more about [...]

Local ingredient

January 23, 2017 // 0 Comments

With the #IWCBD International Women’s Brew Day only a few weeks away I’ve been giving some thought to my local ingredient.  It’s the time of year when fruit isn’t really in abundance in our Crewe climate, I’ve already ruled out grit from the neighbouring railway and having already used Haughton honey I wanted something different. And that’s when David chipped in and suggested salt, Cheshire is well known for its salt mines and salt industry.  So a gose, [...]

Offbeat Taproom, Bar & Bottleshop

January 14, 2017 // 0 Comments

The Taproom, Bar & Bottleshop continues to grow and evolve. I hope you like the changes when we reopen on Thursday, I’ll post some photos up too.  It’s always going to be a quirky, novel space in a block industrial unit but injected with colour, a great range of beers, gins, wines, soft drinks and snacks.  It’s original and I hope you love it as much as I do.  I’ve so much planned for this year, look out for some amazing bands, events, tastings and more opening [...]
