#FirstyFriday Festival

February 20, 2017 // 0 Comments

A brief chat with a friend about #FirstyFriday Festival and I thought I’d best drop you an update.  At the moment our big August weekend’s future is a little unknown, a lot will depend on the tenant in the third unit and whether we can use the car park for extra toilets, seating and so on.  We are planning a load of extra opening hours through July and August and some more live music but will confirm whether we doing the big festival once we know more about [...]

Local ingredient

January 23, 2017 // 0 Comments

With the #IWCBD International Women’s Brew Day only a few weeks away I’ve been giving some thought to my local ingredient.  It’s the time of year when fruit isn’t really in abundance in our Crewe climate, I’ve already ruled out grit from the neighbouring railway and having already used Haughton honey I wanted something different. And that’s when David chipped in and suggested salt, Cheshire is well known for its salt mines and salt industry.  So a gose, [...]

Press release; IWCBD Reveals Brew for 2017 – Unite Local International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day is pleased to announce our fourth annual global event to be held on March 8th, 2017. Offbeat Taproom, Bar & Bottleshop

January 14, 2017 // 0 Comments

The Taproom, Bar & Bottleshop continues to grow and evolve. I hope you like the changes when we reopen on Thursday, I’ll post some photos up too.  It’s always going to be a quirky, novel space in a block industrial unit but injected with colour, a great range of beers, gins, wines, soft drinks and snacks.  It’s original and I hope you love it as much as I do.  I’ve so much planned for this year, look out for some amazing bands, events, tastings and more opening [...]

#DryAnuary & #TryAnuary

January 3, 2017 // 0 Comments

Us people in the licensed trade we understand #DryAnuary, the excesses of the festive season catching up with you and all that but it also has a crushing effect on our businesses as our day to day lives as brewers, bar operators and bottle shops sell alcohol for a living.  I’ve mentioned #TryAnuary before, I’m glad to see it keeps coming back and the licensed trade have embraced it to encourage more people to try something new in the beer world. In mid January I’ve two new [...]

End of 2016

December 31, 2016 // 1 Comment

As the new year rapidly approaches I wanted to wish you all well for health and happiness in 2017 and thank you for your custom and support. For a lot of people 2016 has been a negative one but in Offbeat world I’ve no regrets.  The little brewery kit has taken a while to get the hang of and the leaking drain is a bit of a nightmare but we’ve got there and the bar is ticking over happily. 2017 will see some new beers and some revivals (hello Dotty!) along with the ongoing [...]

New brews

December 13, 2016 // 0 Comments

Having a stock of the regular beers and seasonal beers I’ve taken the opportunity this week to brew up a couple of newbies. Fermenting away in FV2 is the Unconventional Lime Pepper Saison at 4.6% and running off into FV1 as we speak is a new chocolatey, vanilla, lactose number.  I’m aiming for a rich, sweet stout style; thinking of a beer equivalent of a mug of hot chocolate by a log fire.  As yet unnamed so if you’ve any ideas let me know and look out for them in [...]

Beer People Are Good People

September 29, 2016 // 0 Comments

For @SalfordBeerFest Jim,”Beer People Are Good People” has become a bit of a catchphrase.  Jim is a great champion of northern brewers and pubs, he extended his boundary to include us in Crewe as he’s enjoyed the beers from Offbeat.  Salford Beer Fest is in it’s third and final year and I may be speaking out of turn here and a mass generalisation for the participating brewers but for the support Jim gives the brewers in his tweeting and blogging and drinking we like to [...]

C Smackdown

September 28, 2016 // 2 Comments

As October rolls ever closer it’s irking me (and probably a few others in the licensed trade) about Go Sober for October. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in favour of raising money for charity, especially cancer ones having lost my mother to it, and the benefits of not drinking alcohol for a while can’t be denied. BUT the licensed trade plays a huge part in raising money for various charities throughout the year and this encourages people to say away. Pubs are the heart of [...]
