is probably the second last brew on the current Offbeat Brewery kit; this time next week I’ll hopefully have a fair chunk of it loaded on the van or packed on pallets and off to big Newcastle it will go.  It’s a nerve wracking time, so much to do, so many long hours and a seemingly never ending To Do list but I suppose it’s gradually coming together. I’ll be bringing back from Newcastle the Out There Brewing kit which is about a third the size of what I’ve got [...]

Not at #FirstyFriday

May 7, 2016 // 0 Comments

I think yesterday was only the second #FirstyFriday I’ve missed since we started and the first was a well coordinated planned absence!  I unfortunately got sick on Tuesday and despite my best efforts haven’t been able to shake it off. I briefly went in to work Thursday to try and get things straightened out but soon realised I wasn’t well enough to be there. After discussions with the doctor on Thursday night I was told to stay in bed or get admitted to hospital. So [...]

having just found a pushchair dumped outside the brewery (thanks for the littering), it seems a good opportunity to talk about push chairs.  With the building work going on to move the brewery into Unit 4 we are losing a lot of floor space and I’m afraid we will no longer be able to accommodate prams and pushchairs on open days.  I can only apologise for any inconvenience this causes but space really is at a premium. [...]

I think “organised chaos”

April 23, 2016 // 0 Comments

would be too generous a description at the moment.  While keeping brewing operations going on in Unit 6 the builders have been busy in units 4 and 5 getting the plinth ready for the new brewery kit to stand. With the amount of stuff that’s stored in there it’s crazy at the moment but hopefully works are finished at the end of Tuesday, I can get the place straightened out and the bar moved in to its new home.  Then it’s #FirstyFriday the following week to add in to [...]

April #FirstyFriday & Bonus Saturday!

March 7, 2016 // 0 Comments

As one #FirstyFriday passes my brain is looking ahead to the next one already – another short month so already less than 4 weeks to go! Mr Otherton Ales (also referred to as the husband these days) and I are doing #FirstyFriday with the new outside Argo bar over both Friday and Saturday.  We want a good trial run with it to iron out any glitches so a weekend of beery fun seemed like a fine plan – I’m already praying the weather is warmer and bright!  We’ve music on [...]

I’m at Crewe Hall this Sunday as part of the County Brides Wedding Fayre so it seemed a prime opportunity to add the Weddings page to our website here. If you’re getting married we’ve a range of options under our Hoppiest Day of your Lives banner from doing personalised bottles of beer for wedding favours to you being involved in designing and brewing your own beer for your reception.  Have a click through here and read what we can offer, stop by and pick up one of our [...]

Crewe Steampunk Convivial

Addressing the Offbeat rumours

January 26, 2016 // 4 Comments

Offbeat seems to be the subject of a lot of hot gossip and speculation so here’s what’s happening. Over Christmas I decided I needed to change my life; I’ve been self employed for 12 years, working crazy hours and Type 1 diabetic since just before my first birthday.  There’s a lot of stress that goes along with work and it effects the diabetes badly; this year I’ve been given the opportunity to have an insulin pump which most diabetics have claimed revolutionises [...]

Argonauts, Weddings, Festivals & Parties

January 5, 2016 // 0 Comments

As 2016 swings in to action so does the next crazy level of plans and ideas. At some point in the past year or so David of Otherton Ales fame bought this refrigerated mobile trailer. It sat in unit 4 at the brewery for ages until I insisted it had to be moved so it’s now in storage off site.  It’s time it earned it’s keep so in the next couple of months we’re finalising the design work with the awesome One Red Shoe and the trailer is off to Blackpool to be [...]

Planning Ahead

December 10, 2015 // 0 Comments

While failing to get anywhere with the accounts it’s time for some diary planning.  We usually put the events here on the website and then create ‘Events’ for them on the Facebook page here. #FirstyFriday will keep happening with it’s usual regularity and we’re booking up bands to see us through to the end of the year….I know it’s not sunk in everywhere yet but the name comes from it being the first Friday of the month.  We skip January but then back [...]
