Weddings

January 28, 2016 // 0 Comments

I’m at Crewe Hall this Sunday as part of the County Brides Wedding Fayre so it seemed a prime opportunity to add the Weddings page to our website here. If you’re getting married we’ve a range of options under our Hoppiest Day of your Lives banner from doing personalised bottles of beer for wedding favours to you being involved in designing and brewing your own beer for your reception.  Have a click through here and read what we can offer, stop by and pick up one of our [...]

Crewe Steampunk Convivial

Addressing the Offbeat rumours

January 26, 2016 // 4 Comments

Offbeat seems to be the subject of a lot of hot gossip and speculation so here’s what’s happening. Over Christmas I decided I needed to change my life; I’ve been self employed for 12 years, working crazy hours and Type 1 diabetic since just before my first birthday.  There’s a lot of stress that goes along with work and it effects the diabetes badly; this year I’ve been given the opportunity to have an insulin pump which most diabetics have claimed revolutionises [...]

Argonauts, Weddings, Festivals & Parties

January 5, 2016 // 0 Comments

As 2016 swings in to action so does the next crazy level of plans and ideas. At some point in the past year or so David of Otherton Ales fame bought this refrigerated mobile trailer. It sat in unit 4 at the brewery for ages until I insisted it had to be moved so it’s now in storage off site.  It’s time it earned it’s keep so in the next couple of months we’re finalising the design work with the awesome One Red Shoe and the trailer is off to Blackpool to be [...]

Planning Ahead

December 10, 2015 // 0 Comments

While failing to get anywhere with the accounts it’s time for some diary planning.  We usually put the events here on the website and then create ‘Events’ for them on the Facebook page here. #FirstyFriday will keep happening with it’s usual regularity and we’re booking up bands to see us through to the end of the year….I know it’s not sunk in everywhere yet but the name comes from it being the first Friday of the month.  We skip January but then back [...]

Happy (almost) 5th Birthday to us

October 30, 2015 // 0 Comments

Sunday sees the 5th anniversary of the first Offbeat brew at our original home up the street in the basement of the Borough Arms.  Much has changed since then, many new beers have been brewed on our own bigger kit, we’ve expanded in to 3 industrial units, we’ve won a few awards, my core staff are still with me and totally fab and we still love what we do. The beer market keeps changing and shifting.  There’s loads more really creative brewing going on and I enjoy playing [...]

Danish Pancakes

October 10, 2015 // 0 Comments

I recently caught an American food show on TV where they had these Danish pancakes, or aebelskiver. A quick web search found a couple of the pans so we thought we would give them a trial run for the Beer Box Bites sides of the business. Of course we had to add beer to the batter and have been experimenting with the pan and different fillings – the craft barrel aged feta is awesome with caramelised onions and chorizo works particularly well too!  Look forward to having these on [...]

Oddity 9, my second sour

October 7, 2015 // 0 Comments

An opportunity approaches this week where we are not brewing Friday due to trade day at Indy Man Beer Con so on Thursday I’m planning my second kettle soured beer which I can then leave to do it’s thing over the weekend.  It’s going to start with the same base recipe as Oddity 2, Berliner Weisse and then have Kaffir Lime leaves used in the boil rather than hops. “The Kaffir Lime has a dark green, warty skin which inspires an alternative name, leprous lime. There is [...]

Hop seminar & walk with @charlesfaram

September 9, 2015 // 0 Comments

I’ve spent yesterday and today down near Malvern on a hop farm learning more about one of our key ingredients.   Yesterday involved a bunch of seminars, it was interesting if a bit depressing – the hop crops across the world have been blighted by a series of too hot weather, droughts and even hail. Hops from this year’s harvest are going to shoot up in price….”2007″ was mentioned which will be putting fear in to anyone who was brewing then and hops [...]

Dark beer season approaches

August 21, 2015 // 0 Comments

I know many people like their dark beers but we can’t escape the fact that through the summer it’s all about the pales and we struggle to shift the darker numbers.  Now the weather is warm but less then average I’m thinking over bringing some darker numbers in for September. First up will be the Off Kilter Porter with it’s peppery edge and then thinking on a smoky syrupy sort of stout.  I have an idea in my head but it’s not taken full shape and in to the actual [...]
