Save the Date!

Gin Festival and Grateful Deaf beer gathering is in the planning for Thursday 6th October through to Saturday 8th October – more information to follow when I have it but at the moment in the midst of trying to see what Grateful Deaf beers we can get to us from Ken’s brewing collaborations this year and start to compile a gin list and build an event round it. ┬áMore soon, it’ll be worth the [...]

Grateful Deaf brew day

August 12, 2016 // 0 Comments

Today Ken Fisher is with me and we are brewing up his IPA recipe with a few tweaks for what we have for available ingredients! Ken brewed an India Brown Ale here  three years ago (pump clip shown!) and every year he comes back and does a European tour brewing numerous times while fitting in some time volunteering on the International Bar at the Great British Beer Festival. We are aiming for about 5.4% American style IPA with a touch of colour and Crystal, Cascade and Columbus hops. [...]

Bottle Fridge

August 1, 2016 // 2 Comments

I was asked the other day about whether I would stock some mainstream lager in the brewery bar. It was an immediate “Nope” and then I was asked about keeping some under the counter. I think i thought on it for maybe 2 seconds and then replied in the negative too.   My first reaction was if its under the bar nobody is going to know its there to buy and then, why would I?!  As a brewer I think we make some great products and if the full on flavour of the big IPAs or the [...]

#NewBrewThursday

July 13, 2016 // 0 Comments

I’ve been asked a couple of times about #NewBrewThursday on the blackboards in the bar so now is the chance to find out more! It’s well established (of American origin I believe) and gives you the opportunity to try new beers and brewers to showcase new stuff.  So I have something new for you, started by accident rather than design and is going out as Oddity 10 Citra Wheat. Citra hops are gorgeous, packed full of all the citrusy flavours and all on a light malt base, the wheat [...]

Toilets

July 8, 2016 // 0 Comments

I get to blog about all the fun stuff, like toilets today!  I know ours aren’t the most glam and working hard on painting, cleaning and tidying them up to make them a bit more respectable.  Also hard at work on a mosaic bottle cap floor in between the bar being open which will hopefully look amazing when finished (probably a few months away at this [...]

A pizza the action

July 5, 2016 // 0 Comments

It’s a terrible pun, sorry!  With all the changes here at Offbeat I’m sorry to say the pizza oven has been rehomed. As a staff of one and a few lovely helpers here and there it’s become impossible to do both beer and food so it’s moved on to a  new home.  We’ve enjoyed working with Bistro Box and hope to have them along some more #FirstyFridays while we do our cheese, meat and fondue thing on other Thursdays and Fridays.  We would ask that you [...]

New opening hours

July 2, 2016 // 0 Comments

As some of you may have heard that we got planning permission through to open the bar a bit more often, so from this point forward we will be open every week,Thursdays and Fridays from 5pm to 10pm. The first Friday of the month (#FirstyFriday) will continue to be a bigger event, more about that below, but now you can come every week and chill out, have some beers (cask, keg, bottles and cans, Offbeat and guests) along with artisanal gins, ciders from near and far and a great wine list put [...]

Sour beers

June 27, 2016 // 0 Comments

I’ve spent the weekend in Amsterdam at Carnivale Brettanomyces learning about and drinking sour beers. Yeah, for the uninitiated that’s a thing! It’s a great city and been a great experience, had a tour round Jopen, a great afternoon at Brouwerij ‘t IJ (I love this place, something very chilled out about being sat drinking great beer under a windmill!) and then in and out of classes at Brouwerij de Prael, an amazing goat and beer dinner in a church and then loads of [...]

Big news

June 17, 2016 // 0 Comments

Our planning permission got approved which means we can open the bar more! More details to follow as still a lot to sort out but hoping to do Thurday and Friday evenings with some beers, wines, ciders and artisan gins alongside some great snacks.  Hopefully from July #FirstyFriday onwards… A few people have asked about Saturdays – at the moment my weekends tend to be filled with doing markets or bookings with the outside bar and it’s not possible for me to be in two [...]
